"What to Eat Wednesdays" with Tokyo Express

Video courtesy of Foodie B

Good hibachi and sushi can be hard to find, especially in the East Texas area. No worries, Toyko Express has BOTH at a reasonable price in TWO locations! This Japenese restaurant doesn't just have your typical shrimp and fried rice but offers a variety of meats and flavors along with great appetizers and other options for those who aren't too big on authentic Japenese cuisine.

My friends and I eat here so much it should be a sin! After casually speaking to a few people, I found that these things offered on the menu are a MUST TRY:

APPETIZERS:
1. Egg Rolls- Chicken, shrimp, and vegetables rolled into a spring wrap, deep-fried and served with sweet chili sauce
2. Crab Pillows (Crab Ragoon)- Cream cheese and crab rolled into a spring wrap, deep-fried and served with sweet chili sauce
3. Boom Boom Shrimp- Jumbo shrimp battered, deep-fried and tossed in Tokyo’s sweet & spicy sauce

ENTREES & COMBINATIONS:
They offer hibachi sauce which is a light soy sauce (my personal favorite) and teriyaki sauce which is a thicker, sweeter sauce. All entrees and combination plates are served with fried rice, sweet carrots, and white sauce (or what some call "yum yum sauce").
1. Hibachi Shrimp w/ Mushrooms
2. Teriyaki Chicken w/ Broccoli
3. Steak and Chicken w/ Mushrooms and Broccoli

SUSHI:
1. California/Spicy California Roll-  Crab stick, cucumber, avocado and masago (spicy roll is topped with spicy sauce)
2. Tokyo Roll-  Shrimp tempura, crab delight, cucumber, and avocado rolled in a soy wrap and topped with eel sauce
3. Texan Roll- Deep fried with crab stick, smoked salmon, shrimp tempura, cream cheese, avocado and masago topped with spicy sauce and eel sauce

OTHER OPTIONS:
1. Chicken Wings (6/12)- Deep fried and tossed in the sauce of your choice.  (Tokyo’s sweet & spicy, Teriyaki, Buffalo or Plain)
2. Honey Glazed Chicken (8)- Chicken tenders dipped in tempura batter, deep-fried and served with house-made honey glaze
3. Fried rice (Small/Large)
4. Soba Noodles

Tokyo Express also makes it their business to help out the TAMUC campus by hosting several benefit nights for various organizations. We always love good food and good service and this place is all around good! Dine-in or take out, the choice is yours but either way, it is worth a try! Take a look!

“The Sunday Sit-down” with Dos Laredo’s

It’s hot outside but this food is even hotter, or should I say "muy caliente"! Dos Laredo’s is sure to satisfy any Mexican food craving. This restaurant is the perfect blend of Mexican with a Texas twist serving Tex-Mex food, bottled drinks from Mexico, and DRINKS *wink wink* for those over the age of 21 of course.

When it comes to Mexican food, I can't help but get excited. The cheese, the rice, the beans, the spice. Whew, it's almost too delicious for me to even put into words. Dos Laredo's is one of the highest-rated Mexican restaurants in the area. Like most Mexican or Tex-Mex restaurants, the table starts off with their own personal bowl of homemade salsa with a basket of chips to share. Their menu offers anything from enchiladas to fajitas (yes, they do that sizzle thing that turns heads when it's on the way to the table). They are known for their Laredo's special, it's named after the restaurant so it has to be good right? The special is a plate of Spanish rice, topped with your choice or a combination of chicken, shrimp or steak, queso blanco, and grilled peppers and onions. So simple yet so good.

If you're looking to wind down or mellow out after a long day, their margaritas are to die for with flavors including lime, mango, and strawberry. They even offer select beer and draft beer for those "let's grab a beer" type of people. Overall this place is perfect for small or large group gatherings with friendly staff ready to serve you. Order ahead, dine-in, or get it delivered to you. Either way, there is something here that you will enjoy!

"What to Eat Wednesdays" with Lulu's Burgers

You're halfway through the week and you're halfway (actually, not at all) motivated to cook, so what's for dinner? This week, let's try Lulu's Burgers which is located at 803 Culver St. Commerce, Tx, and is open from 11am-10pm 7 days a week. Lulu's offers... well you guessed it. Burgers, but they offer much more, let's explore.

Lulu's is known for its burgers and with that, the options are almost endless. They have classic hamburgers with a choice and/or combination of cheese, bacon, mushrooms, chili, or bbq sauce. On top of that, they have a specialty burger menu for those feeling a bit fancy: The fried egg, ghost-fire, Frito pie, guacamole, California, or Texas patty melt burgers. Besides these thick and hearty burgers, there are healthy (the "Salads and Wraps", and "Lite Stuff" sections) and other not so healthy choices (the "Appetizers", "Chicken Stuff", and "Other Stuff" sections) on the menu. No matter what you get, it is guaranteed to be made to order. The fries are always fresh and the burgers are always hand-formed and juicy. They "are not only dedicated but also deeply obsessed with making the perfect burgers" as stated on their website.

We all love a good deal and a way to save money, right? Right. I couldn't talk about this place without mentioning this weekly special. Lulu's is the highlight of this week's "What to eat Wednesdays" because their best deal is TODAY! From 4pm-Close Lulu's offers a BOGO deal for their burgers. You heard it right, buy one burger and get one free. Of course, there is a small catch... you're only limited to the classic burger, cheeseburger, and bacon cheeseburger. But, $6 isn't too bad for such a good deal. Save one for later or share with a friend, the choice is yours!

What are your favorites on the menu? Leave a comment below OR don't be afraid to mention me on Twitter @Exit101Eats to share your thoughts with others! With effective communication in mind, this week I have been exploring a website called Ubercircle. I was able to schedule my post to ensure that they are posted at my desired time along with the option to make posts among several social media platforms in one place at one time. I found that the best feature it had to offer is the scheduling of post and accessibility to Google Drive for your image library. What does that mean for all of us? Quick, easy, and consistent communication. Overall, both Lulu's and Ubercircle are worth a try! Let's talk, LET'S EAT!

"The Sunday Sit-down" with Omegas

Let's sit down and talk about one of my favorite restaurants of all time. It is the top two and it is definitely not number two. For the first Sunday Sit-down, we will be discussing Omegas Biscuits 'n Eggs, located at 1814 Monroe St, Commerce, TX. Omegas has a variety of items on their menu, there's always something for everyone on the menu. From breakfast and coffee to American traditional to soul food. Where should we start?

The first meal of the day is the most important meal of the day, whether it be breakfast or brunch the food is a hit. Then again, who says you can’t eat this any time of the day? Omegas offer a number of breakfast platters with all the works: your choice of homemade biscuits, pancakes (the size of the plate), and French toast. The works? Eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, pork chops, chicken fried steak, rib-eye steak, grits, oatmeal, and hash browns. These platters range from $4.25-11.99, not too bad for a whole meal. They also offer a number of Mexican style breakfast like huevos rancheros, chorizo and eggs, and breakfast tacos. My personal favorites? The Mama's Platter that includes two eggs, meat, and homemade biscuits and sausage gravy (the biscuits are to die for) and the Juju's Platter that includes the same as the Mama's Platter but offers a pancake or half an order of fresh toast instead of the biscuit and sausage gravy.

Hungry? Or even worse, the terrible mix of hungry and angry, hangry? They have appetizers to get you started! Fried pickles, fried mushrooms, onion rings, hot wings, and a number of salads for all you healthy eaters. Now that you have something to hold you, where's the REAL food? For those that love burgers and sandwiches, they have plenty of options for you: Hamburgers (with cheese if you please and bacon if you cravin') and Patty Melts served with not one but two 4oz patties. Sandwiches: the classic BLT, club, grilled chicken, and grilled cheese, not to mention one of my favorites, the HUGE chicken fried sandwich with your choice of chicken or steak. All of these burgers and sandwiches come with a side of fries, tots or chips for $4.25-8.95.

Omegas has a menu that includes all of their favorites. These favorites include three steaks: Sirloin chopped steak with sauteed onions and mushroom gravy, chicken fried steak, and an 8oz ribeye. Four chicken items: Chicken fried chicken, chicken strips, grilled chicken breast, and Monclova's style chicken smothered with sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes, and jack cheese. Lastly, the classic meatloaf with a sweet and savory tomato sauce. These favorites come with two sides of your choice: mashed potatoes, turnip greens, pinto beans, and mac and cheese just to name a few all for $8.95-11.95. Whew, that was a mouthful. Anyone have room for dessert? Omegas also have cakes and pies by the slice or if your sweet tooth is really calling, you can buy them whole.

Omegas is an all-around appetite pleaser. My favorite go-to appetizer and meal? Hot wings, the chicken fried chicken sandwich or the chicken fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. I admit I have a thing for some good chicken but overall, Omegas never disappoints. The staff are always friendly and welcome you to sit down anywhere you please to enjoy your meal. What sounds good to you? Where are you sitting down this Sunday? Let's talk, LET'S EAT!

Welcome to Exit 101 Eats!

Welcome to Exit 101 Eats! My name is "Foodie B" and when its time to eat you can count on me. If I don't know anything else, I know good food and a variety at that. With Exit 101 Eats! I plan to give the Hunt county area an inside view of some of the best places to eat, weather passing through neighboring cities, or stopping by Texas A&M University-Commerce. How do I find these places? You guessed it, take Exit 101 right outside of Greenville, Texas. The road is long but good food is worth the wait.

When looking for a spot to satisfy everyone it can be difficult to find that one good place, but no worries! I will share several local restaurants, going over menu items as well as share some of my favorite things that I hope others like yourself will try. On Wednesdays, I will be focusing on quick eats to keep you going during the busy work week while Sundays will focus more on sit-down style restaurants. Throughout the week be on the lookout for "What to eat Wednesdays" and "The Sunday Sit-down" for information about weekly deals that these restaurants have to offer.  Search the hashtags #WTEW101 and #SS101 to find my recommended eats!
